NENE H
Everything about Nene H depicts the unexpected. Whether she’s sprinkling trap into a peak-time techno set, or obliterating Berghain in her bridal gown—just when you think you’ve managed to box Beste Aydin Muasya in, she throws a curveball that hits you square in the face. In the ten years since relocating to Berlin, the Turkish-born DJ has become a powerhouse of the city’s evolving underground identity—blazing a trail for SWANA, Muslim, queer, and female representation in a scene which has historically overlooked them. Her transcendental sets are the result of an all-consuming infatuation with music, built upon the foundations of the Azerbaijani and Turkish sounds she grew up on, and filtered through the prodigal prowess for classical piano she honed at Stuttgart’s State Conservatory. Serving up truculent techno, Turkish-German Hip-Hop, and lashings of booty-bouncing ghetto-house, she demonstrates an inexplicable aptitude for genre-jumping, and makes it make sense. But however eclectic Nene H’s sonic identity, her motives are unwavering. Her presence is unapologetic, and her uncompromising commitment to uplifting marginalised communities in club culture persists throughout each of her endeavours. With "Sirän“—the Istanbul-based collective she co-founded in 2022— Aydin hosts parties and workshops that centre the city’s QTBIPOC community, in an ongoing effort to nurture its homegrown scene. And with her non-profit label Umay, launched in 2023, Nene H extends her efforts to provide tangible support for emerging queer and SWANA producers.

Their mixes aren’t just dancefloor magic—they’re a call to collectivize the rave. If the means of production won’t seize themselves, at least the bassline will.

RAG
"I've always wanted to infuse something queer into what I do, from my DJ sets to artistic direction." I love welcoming people and getting them to dance, just as I love bringing a dancefloor to life, whether I'm behind the decks or in the artistic direction. That’s what makes me different from other DJs or event organizers. » DJ, producer, organizer, programmer, artistic director... Rag learned the meaning of celebration, how to dance and make people dance, alongside the gay community when she was still a teenager. "I didn't imagine myself as a DJ yet, but more as a party organizer. I've always needed to create a chosen family. That’s what slowly led me to organizing parties. This need to make people dance and fight for my community. » The revelation came with her meeting the few pioneering women DJs of the Parisian techno scene. "Little by little, I started meeting people and making a name for myself in the clubbing scene. It was at Pulp that I felt the energy of electroclash head-on. I kept that slightly dark and gritty touch in my sets, like a guitar riff. » That was the spark. She threw herself into organizing parties and joined the lesbian collective Barbi(e)turix in 2008, infusing it with new energy and making Wet For Me a European reference in the Parisian queer scene, inviting the biggest names from the international scene. Alongside Barbi(e)turix and staying true to her activism, she programmed the stage at the Pride March, which brought together 30,000 people at Place de la République in Paris, imprinting an electro and techno twist for four years in a row. She also collaborated with many venues like La Gaîté Lyrique, Le Cabaret Sauvage, La Cité Fertile, and Le Sucre, offering a wide variety of events. She also increased her number of DJ sets, viewing each one as a challenge that pushed her out of her comfort zone. Equally at ease in clubs or at festivals, she’s a resident at Badaboum and the Rinse France radio station, and has also played at Nuits Sonores, Cape Town Music Electronic Festival, We Love Green, Rex Club, Peacock Society, Sucre, as well as in Berlin, London, and New York. She excels in techno, dark disco, and post-punk, always maintaining her unshakable enthusiasm.

GVG LOU
aka Eleni Papalitsa, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin. She use performance, music, and intallative gestures in order to speak about and trace mass culture, pop currents and working class socio-political theses and aesthetics. Her work is based on ways of breaking, or dismantling systematic, patriarchal or canonised ideas and ideals, related to identity. Her projects aim on queering the masculine south subculture (resonating with both Mediterranean and Balkan references) and along, its connotations, semantics, visibility. Most of her research and artistic outcomes are utilising the figure of “Kagouras” as a means and a vessel to popularise the lifestyle, ethics, fashion, financial status and vernaculars of this community. However, there is a certain cynicality and critical approach in the ways Papalitsa looks at the male dominated world. By feminising a domain occupied by men figures, she thinks through queer, “as a political domain, that goes beyond the quagmire of the present” to quote the words of the queer, political scholar Jose Esteban Munoz.
